I had my 40 week appointment on Thursday morning & my midwife checked my cervix. I told her I didn’t want to know any specifics so all she said was “I think we might have this baby this weekend!” (I was 2 cm dilated at that point). I went on with my day & nothing significant happened. I woke up at 4 AM on Friday to a really intense cramp – my first contraction. I wasn’t able to fall back to sleep so we worked through the contractions – which were still really inconsistent – when they did come along. It was my last day of work and I really wasn’t expecting to go into labor for another week, so I had a lot to pack up. Josh drove me to work and I was there for about an hour before I had to call it quits. I packed up all my stuff and we went home to spend the day relaxing as much possible. My contractions were still all over the place but intense & close enough that I couldn’t fall asleep. Around 6 PM, we went on a walk, ate dinner & then I took a shower & something to help me fall asleep. I fell asleep around 8 and was able to sleep until the contractions woke me up around 1 AM. I labored at home through (still inconsistent) contractions until about 7 AM. I had 3 contractions on the 15 minute drive there (0/10 recommend laboring in the car if you can help it). When we got to the birth center, my midwife checked me – 8 cm dilated & 100% effaced. My waters were still intact at this point. I got in the pool around 8 AM and labored there for a little over 2 hours, until my water broke & I entered transition. We moved to a birthing bed where I pushed in a handful of different positions for roughly 40 minutes.
31 hours of labor, 10 hours of active labor, & 1 perfect baby boy born on his due date.
Beyond incredible prenatal care & delivery, the post-partum care I received was nothing short of amazing & I am so thankful for KBC, Cathy & Mandy. I can’t imagine a better place and team for my birth & I can’t wait to deliver more babies with y’all in the future .
