Professionally, I have worked critical care primarily along with ER & labor/delivery in a variety of hospital settings. I gained NICU experience because I had a critical care background. I have worked in hospital for over 25 years and out of hospital for over 15 years at this point.

I have cared for moms and babies through many wonderful as well as many hard experiences, which includes my own children and grandchildren. I have been privileged to “midwife” all my grandchildren: Four of them born at directly into my hands; Five of them have had to be born via C-section for various medical conditions, but I was there every step of the way and allowed to participate by the gracious physicians involved. I am eternally grateful that God has given knowledge and wisdom into the world, and when that knowledge is used appropriately, it is lifesaving and life changing.

  • ACLS certification; advanced cardiac life support certification-1985, current again in 2007

Welcome to the Katy Birth Center!  I am thrilled that you are interested in Midwifery Care and out of hospital birth as a part of your journey in parenting and life! We each have a journey that brings us to where we are today.  

My journey to becoming a midwife began as a little girl, the oldest of 5 children. My mother was a progressive at the time and involved with natural birth and breastfeeding; I was all about babies and was awed by pregnancy. My mom got me Spiritual Midwifery for my 16th birthday. I entered nursing school straight from high school as that was the only official route to midwifery at the time.  

I married during nursing school and had my first baby 5 days after graduation and my plan for going on was delayed for longer than I thought it would be. I had 3 babies in under 3 years; life was happening! 

Not much happens the way we originally envision it. I had to be a working mom and leaving my babies with someone else to do so was the hardest part of it. I was widowed when my children were 7, 5, & 4; they were my top priority even more than before. God was gracious to me and has led me each step of the way. My church community became even more like family and helped support my little family as we walked through the next 7 years. I homeschooled my children before it was normal, immigrated to Canada with them, and remarried in 1994. My husband, Ken, lost his first wife to MS; and our broken families were blended together. Together we have 5 amazing, fully grown adult children and 9 just as amazing grandchildren!

I did not know what all He had in store for us, but knew it would be awhile before I would be fully released to pursue midwifery while we blended and our children grew to maturity. Within our church community, there were midwives and I made myself available as location and obligations would allow.
